Building a Secure and Compliant Payment Platform for Africa
At PayzaAPI, our mission is to make it easier for businesses across Africa to receive payments, manage their operations, and grow beyond borders. As we continue expanding our cross-border payment network, maintaining security, compliance, and reliability remains our highest priority.
To support sustainable growth and comply with payment industry requirements, we are introducing an important update to our payout policy for cross-border transactions.
What Is Changing?
There is no change for merchants receiving payments from customers within the same country.
However, for cross-border transactions—where a merchant receives a payment from a customer in a different country—payouts will become available 7 days after the successful deposit.
Same-Country Payments
If both the customer and the merchant are in the same country:
- ✅ Instant payouts remain available.
- ✅ Funds can be settled immediately, subject to standard processing and compliance checks.
Cross-Border Payments
If a payment originates from a different country:
- ⏳ The funds will become available for payout 7 days after the deposit.
- ✅ Once the holding period ends, merchants can withdraw or settle their funds according to their configured payout method.
This policy applies specifically to cross-border transactions where additional compliance and risk management measures are required.
Why Is There a 7-Day Holding Period?Cross-border payments involve additional regulatory and operational considerations compared to domestic transactions. The holding period helps us maintain a secure and reliable payment ecosystem for everyone using PayzaAPI.
Some of the reasons include:
Regulatory Compliance
Different countries have different financial regulations governing cross-border payments.
The settlement period helps ensure compliance with applicable payment, anti-money laundering (AML), and fraud prevention requirements.
Fraud Prevention
International transactions naturally carry higher risks than domestic payments.
The holding period allows additional time for transaction monitoring and helps protect merchants, customers, and payment partners from fraudulent activity.
Risk Management
The settlement window provides time to identify and resolve any unusual transaction patterns or payment disputes before funds are released.
This contributes to a safer environment for all merchants on the platform.
Sustainable Payment Infrastructure
By aligning our settlement processes with industry best practices and payment partner requirements, we can continue expanding our services into more countries while maintaining a stable and trusted platform.
What This Means for MerchantsFor most local businesses, nothing changes.
If you primarily receive payments from customers within your own country, you will continue to enjoy fast, instant settlements.
If your business serves customers across multiple African countries, simply plan your cash flow with the 7-day settlement period in mind for cross-border transactions.
Benefits of This ApproachAlthough a short holding period may seem like an adjustment, it provides important long-term benefits:
- Enhanced transaction security.
- Stronger fraud protection.
- Compliance with regional financial regulations.
- Improved platform stability.
- Increased trust for merchants and customers.
- A scalable infrastructure that supports expansion into additional African markets.
These measures help ensure PayzaAPI remains a reliable payment platform for businesses operating across Africa.
Supporting Cross-Border GrowthPayzaAPI is committed to helping African businesses expand beyond their local markets.
With support for multiple African currencies, mobile money networks, merchant payment solutions, online storefronts, and POS systems, we continue to invest in infrastructure that makes cross-border commerce simpler and more accessible.
Our goal is to give businesses the confidence to sell across Africa while maintaining the highest standards of security and compliance.
Frequently Asked QuestionsWill same-country payments still be instant?
Yes. Payments received from customers within the same country continue to qualify for instant payouts, subject to normal compliance and system availability.
Does the 7-day policy apply to every transaction?
No. The policy applies only to eligible cross-border transactions where additional settlement time is required.
Why is PayzaAPI introducing this policy?
To support regulatory compliance, reduce fraud, strengthen payment security, and ensure a sustainable payment ecosystem as we continue expanding across Africa.
Our CommitmentEvery decision we make is guided by one goal: building a payment platform that businesses can trust.
As PayzaAPI grows, we will continue introducing features and policies that balance speed, security, compliance, and long-term reliability.
We appreciate the trust our merchants place in us and remain committed to delivering payment solutions that help businesses thrive across Africa.
